E.S. Fox Limited, major nuclear supplier to Ontario’s refurbishment projects, joins CNIC

E.S. Fox Limited, a critical supplier to Ontario’s $26-billion refurbishment of the province’s two largest nuclear stations at Darlington and Bruce Power, has partnered with the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council, an independent body made up of representatives from the Canadian health sector, nuclear industry and leading research groups to help ensure that patients around the world will continue to have access to the cancer care they need.

E.S. Fox Ltd. provides to the nuclear industry a fully integrated, single source of engineering, fabrication, construction and maintenance.

“We have manufactured numerous nuclear components for projects in Canada which are critical to ensuring the long-term, safe operation of these stations,” said Spencer Fox President of E.S. Fox Ltd. “By focusing on the long term we are supporting the efforts of Ontario’s nuclear operators to allow these reactors to produce life-saving medical isotopes, now and into the future. This stable, reliable supply line is critical in ensuring that patients all around the world have access to the critical care they need.”

Together, the organizations hope to promote public awareness about the use and benefits of medical/industrial isotopes and radiation technologies, and work with government stakeholders to ensure that the public policy landscape promotes innovation and supports the increased proliferation of medical and industrial isotope uses.

“For more than 60 years, Canada has been a leader globally in the research, development and production of medical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals. The world has always counted on Canada, but the fragility of our efforts has threatened the critical supply of these materials,” said James Scongack, Chair of the CNIC. “The work of E.S. Fox Ltd. on the refurbishment projects will help to cement the reliable neutron irradiation source needed to make isotopes for decades to come.”

Today’s announcements come just months after the CNIC released a report recognizing the opportunity presented by continued Canadian leadership in isotope. The report makes it clear that Canada must enable investment in its isotope infrastructure and ensure the building blocks are in place for this sector to remain a global leader and makes seven.

“Support for these recommendations will demonstrate a firm commitment to Canada’s role as a leader in nuclear medicine, and dramatically bolster the country’s capacity to innovate while delivering substantial economic and societal benefits to both Canadians and patients around the globe,” Scongack said.
