Abraflex is joining forces with the Canadian Nuclear Isotope Council (CNIC) a coalition of Canadian science, health care and nuclear organizations, in an effort to ensure that the country remains a world leader in the production of life-saving nuclear isotopes.
The CNIC is an independent body of representatives from the Canadian health sector, nuclear industry, and leading research groups, convened specifically to promote Canada’s role in the production of the world’s supply of radioisotopes. Together, the organizations hope to extend the benefits of medical isotopes to more patients and allow them to live fuller lives after receiving a disease diagnosis.
“The CNIC, which formed in April of last year, has really begun to position itself as the trusted voice within the Canadian isotope community,” said John Bradley, President and CEO, of Abraflex. “The opportunity to enhance the message of the CNIC while simultaneously promoting the broader nuclear supply chain for its integral role in ensuring Canada will have access to a secure supply of isotopes for years to come is a huge win.”
Abraflex is currently the exclusive supplier of the Mark 111B Plastic suit for Bruce Power, playing a pivotal role in the company’s upcoming Major Component Replacement Project which will allow Bruce Power to continue to produce life-saving medical isotopes for years to come.
“Nuclear technology and nuclear materials benefit humanity in many ways, which often go unnoticed,” said James Scongack, CNIC Chair. “People often associated the technology with reactors that pump out great quantities of clean energy to electrify their homes, businesses, towns and cities, but they are also playing a pivotal role in the field of nuclear medicine by helping to diagnose and treat life-threatening illnesses from cancer to dementia to cardiac disease.”
Throughout 2019 and beyond, the CNIC will continue to promote public awareness about the use and benefits of medical and industrial isotopes, and radiation technologies, and work with government stakeholders to ensure the public policy landscape promotes innovation and supports continued progress in the area of isotope research, development, and production.
Abraflex is a manufacturer of Personal Protective Equipment to the Nuclear Power Generation Industry. As a company they have evolved over the last 40 years as times and needs for industrial solutions have changed.
