The CNIC Awards

The CNIC Awards are an annual celebration of the ongoing growth and success of the CNIC and its valued members and supporters. The Awards provide a platform for our member community to nominate individuals and organizations who have demonstrated significant leadership and championed advocacy within Canada’s isotope sector.

Who is eligible?

Nominees must be an individual, organization, company, or stakeholder within Canada’s isotope industry. This includes government representatives, academic, business, and Indigenous leaders, industry, and the not-for-profit sector.

Who can nominate?

Nominations are accepted from all CNIC members. Nominations are now closed

Awards selection

The CNIC’s Board of Directors will select award recipients based on an evaluation of all nominees.

The Annual CNIC Awards Reception

This year’s CNIC Awards Reception provides an opportunity for CNIC members to come together and celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of fellow CNIC members and colleagues throughout 2025.

CNIC Members are invited to save the date for the CNIC Awards Reception, hosted in Ottawa in conjunction with the Canadian Nuclear Association conference.

Location: National Arts Centre

Celebrating Canadian Isotope Innovation in 2025

Ecosystem Innovation Award

Recognizes a company or organization that has achieved a major milestone or initiative in Canada’s isotope sector. 

Academic Leadership Award

Recognizes and rewards the excellence of an academic institution or individual in promoting isotope production, research advancement, workforce and talent development, or educational opportunities in Canada. 

Health Champion Award

Recognizes a physician or clinician who has taken a leadership role in advocating for increased use of and access to radioisotopes in Canada. 

Government Stewardship Award

Recognizes an individual or organization within government for excellence in advancing Canada’s continued leadership in isotope development. 

CNIC MVP Award

Recognizes an individual who has demonstrated commitment to the growth and expansion of the CNIC and undertaken a leadership role to ensure the success of various CNIC initiatives. 

Not-for-Profit Advocacy Award

Recognizes a Not-for-Profit organization or individual that has taken a leadership role in advocating for and advancing Canada’s leadership in isotope innovation and development

CNIC Award Winners – Celebrating Innovation in 2024

Federal Government Stewardship

The Honourable Mary Ng, Former Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development

The Honourable Mary Ng is recognized for her leadership on behalf of the nuclear isotope sector through the creation of the Canadian Trade Gateway for Nuclear Development initiative in 2024, which includes isotopes as a key area of focus for future export and trade development.

Provincial Government Stewardship

The Honourable Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Mines for the Province of Ontario

Minister Lecce has demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancing Ontario’s nuclear isotope sector throughout 2024. His notable contributions include recognizing the critical connection between nuclear energy and medical isotopes in Ontario’s Integrated Energy Plan, as well as the expansion of Ontario’s ability to process cancer-fighting medical isotopes through the construction of a new hot cell in Bruce County for the processing of lutetium-177 (Lu-177). Minister Lecce is also recognized for his leadership in making Ontario the first Canadian jurisdiction to publicly fund and administer PLUVICTO. 

Municipal Government Stewardship

Mayor Ian Boddy, City of Owen Sound

Mayor Ian Boddy has emerged as a leader in promoting regional isotope production, workforce and talent development, and partnerships to strengthen the regional supply chain. As co-chair of the Southwestern Ontario Isotope Coalition (SOIC), alongside Coun. Theron Solomon (Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin), James Scongack (Bruce Power and CNIC), and Jessica Linthorne (Nuclear Innovation Institute), Mayor Boddy has helped bring together regional partners to champion isotope innovation and expand the global impact of Southwestern Ontario in the fight against cancer.

Indigenous Leadership

Chief Greg Nadjiwon and Chief Conrad Ritchie, Saugeen Ojibway Nation - Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin’

Chief Greg Nadjiwon and Chief Conrad Ritchie are recognized for their leadership in advancing Saugeen Ojibway Nation’s role in the fight against cancer through Gamzook’aamin aakoziwin. Gamzook’aamin Aakoziwin translates to, “We are teaming up to fight the sickness”, and captures the spirit of the partnership between the SON, Bruce Power, and Isogen, fighting cancer together.

Ecosystem Innovation

Kinectrics

Kinectrics is presented with the Ecosystem Innovation Award for their pioneering work in stable isotope enrichment, particularly with Yb-176, developed as a significant domestic source. This milestone represents a major step in strengthening Canada’s isotope supply chain and supporting our long-term resilience in the isotope sector.

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in collaboration with the Fedoruk Centre and Advanced Cyclotron Systems Inc.

The Canadian Nuclear Laboratories is recognized for their work in the development of Actineer alongside Sylvia Fedoruk Centre and Advanced Cyclotron Systems Inc., which has enabled the first cyclotron irradiation Radium-226 (Ra-226) targets for the production of Actinium-225 (Ac-225) in Canada and represents a significant milestone in strengthening our supply of this critical isotope.

Health Championship

Jointly presented to London Health Sciences Centre and Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc.

 Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc. reached a major Canadian milestone in 2024 with Ontario patients now having access to Pluvicto, which leverages the power of lutetium-177. The first publicly funded patient was treated on December 27, 2024, at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London, Ontario. This milestone is a meaningful step forward for Canadian patients, their families and loved ones.  

Academic Leadership

Dr. Neil Vasdev, The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health

Dr. Neil Vasdev is recognized for his longstanding leadership in the isotope field and his efforts to create new pathways for education and professional development. Through his leadership, Dr. Vasdev secured a historic $3 million Mitacs grant to establish a radiopharmaceutical education hub, further solidifying Canada’s leadership in nuclear medicine research and training.

CNIC “MVP” Award for Lifetime Achievement

Pam Damoff, Former Member of Parliament

Pam Damoff is awarded for her continued support, leadership, and advocacy on behalf of Canada’s isotope sector and patients across the country. Pam was instrumental in securing the funding the establishment of the Canadian Medical Isotope Ecosystem in 2023, which has since supported multiple innovative and life-changing projects. More recently, Pam has been a key champion at the federal level for CNIC’s advocacy and awareness for the IAEA Rays of Hope Initiative.
